Being as it's both Sketch Sunday and Mothers Day, I thought I would combine the two of them.
My mom was the first artist I ever met, and she taught me almost every trick I know. She also introduced me to many cultural influences that remain with me to this day, from Charles Bukowski to Robert Crumb.
In the 60's, she moved from Flint, Michigan to San Francisco's Haight Ashbury, and held down a number of odd jobs while pursuing her love of painting, drinking scotch, and listening to jazz music. The drawing below is inspired by this period of her life, as a working beatnik who refused to let hippies use her barely affordable apartment as a 'crash pad'.
Here's to you Mom!
