As I mentioned earlier, we've started casting for 'The Ride'. Amy and I have been getting a terrific response, which actually surprised the hell out of me; I assumed that this being jaded LA, we'd have little interest in a low paying gig for a short. How wrong I was; we've actually got almost more submissions than we can handle for the time we've reserved at the audition space, and will probably have to tack on another hour to squeeze them all in.
Better yet, there are a handful of actors who look so close to what I've been imagining, it seems almost TOO easy! I really can't wait to hear how many ways my dialogue can be read by people who actually know what they're doing.
In between trying to finalize our locations (including the many problems that have arisen because most of the film takes place inside a cargo van), we've also found time to run the first of a few FX tests.
One of my favorite scenes in the script involves Greg being run over by a car after escaping from Al's Van; I was planning to do this with some cleverly designed shots over any sort of 'stunt' work. My friend John Petersen (husband of my friend Adrienne, who played the lead in the 'Life Without Skin' video and was the model for one of the Indiegogo Campaign Video's) volunteerd to be my Guinnea Pig as I tried to get an approximation of these shots to ensure that they would cut together in the way I hoped.
Here are the storyboards for that sequence:

Below you can watch the results; we had to bang these shots out really fast, as not only was it threatening to rain on us, but our dummy (supplied by producer/FX man Adrian Marcato) was scaring my neighbors children, and their parents were starting to scare me.

We're holding the auditions in two days, and then things will start to really speed up over here; we'll be locking down our shooting dates, applying for permits, getting the costumes together, and loosing our minds. More soon.
Cheers,
Waylon
